Over the last few weeks, Rodin Motorsport driver Alex Dunne has had his fair share of unexpected results.

After a disqualification from second in Austria due to a technical infringement, Dunne began to fall behind in the F2 Drivers Championship. The 19-year-old lost his close margin in the championship when Dutch driver Richard Verschoor won the race and took the lead.

Dunne currently sits in third at 108 points, eight behind Jak Crawford, who clawed his way up after a win in the feature race at Silverstone. Verschoor leads with 122 points.

Coming into this weekend at Silverstone, he was heavily backed by his family, who made their way over from neighbouring Ireland to show their support.

The Irishman qualified in second for the feature race on Sunday, with the reverse grid setting him back into eighth for the sprint race starting grid. Unfortunately, a puncture to his right rear tire nine laps into the sprint after a brief battle with Gabriele Mini guaranteed him some issues.

Dunne fell to the bottom of the order and by lap 17 he was over one minute behind Dino Beganovic in 21st place. This was enough reason for the decision to be made to retire his Rodin Motorsport car. Mini was served a 10-second penalty for the incident.

By Sunday, the feature race was delayed by 10 minutes due to rainy, wet conditions. Once begun, Dunne got a fantastic launch off the line beside polesitter Victor Martins, who unfortunately got a slower start. Dunne slipped into second behind Crawford after the American snuck up from third.

The order remained the same for the majority of the race, and Dunne managed to secure second place. This is his best result since a win in the feature race in Imola back in May.
